Save the date - Brazilica Festival is back in Liverpool this year and it promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

This year the samba festival will collaborate with the city-wide year-long culture programme of events to celebrate 10 years since Liverpool was named Capital of Culture.

On Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14, Brazilica Festival returns to Liverpool’s streets with a packed programme of the sights, sounds and tastes of Brazil.

Organisers have also revealed that the Brazilian Film Festival makes a welcome return for a fourth year, plus a Fringe Festival packed with a wealth of exhibitions, workshops and performances.

The extravagant Carnival Queen competition returns on Friday, July 13; the winner of which is crowned at a night-time Carnival Parade on Saturday, July 14.

The parade, which attracted more than 35,000 people last year, remains the main festival highlight and features Samba bands from across the UK and overseas.

Maeve Morris, of Liverpool Carnival Company, said: “Last year’s festival was an explosion of colour, music and dance and was without doubt our best year to date, in what saw us celebrate our 10th year.

“There will be lots going on at this year’s festival with a full programme of events celebrating the very best of Brazilian culture and we are excited to announce the full details over the coming months.”
