It's the event that many music fans look forward to every single year and the Eurovision Song Contest is back this week with a whole host countries aiming for glory in Switzerland, including the 16 who are performing in Thursday's second semi final.

After Swiss act Nemo triumphed 12 months ago in Malmo with their song The Code, its Basel that has taken on hosting duties for 2025 and, after months of preparation and national finals and internal selections, all eyes will fall on the city as this year's event got going with the first semi final on Tuesday evening, with a line-up that included current favourites to win, Sweden's KAJ with their track Bara Bada Bastu.

This will be followed by a second semi on Thursday, when hotly tipped Austria, Malta and Finland will perform, with 10 acts advancing from each to join the big 5 countries - UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy and host nation Switzerland, who all have a guaranteed place in Saturday's Eurovision final, which like the semis will air live in the UK on BBC One.

If you are ready to get firmly in the grip of Eurovision fever, here is the lowdown on how many countries you can expect to see in action over the course of the week and who will be representing them.
